Tim , I kind of see what you are saying about the “cheese”, but as soon as you play a guitar song or classical music piece on banjo there is a “cheese” factor there. Mike, I see what you are looking for, but no matter how you play it on the banjo, it won’t sound close to the Ramone’s version. You can have a lot of fun with it and make it your own.
The problem is that you can strum to get the exact rhythm with a pick, but it will sound like a banjo being played with a pick. If you play it three finger style…[Read more]

You are on your way! I still love playing out on stage. I’m just at the point that I don’t like bars anymore. That feeling goes away though as soon as the sound system is set up and running!

Good for her! She is young and having fun. I have never understood why people get so bent out of shape over how to play an instrument. Guitar players never seem to have these problems. Tim, I don’t think that any of the performances on Hee Haw or any of the 500 other variety shows were live. I think they were all overdubbed.

Joel, Thanks, but that would be way too labor intensive and wouldn’t really help anyone. If you work your way through two or three of my videos, then you never have to look at tab again. I don’t mind tab, but if you show it for every song, then no one can learn. Check out some of the videos and experiment. You can see where the left hand is and…[Read more]

Song Of The Month 6 months, 1 week agoI got an external ear infection and it knocked me for a loop. My poor old ear swelled up twice it’s size. Needless to say with the pain and the funky looking ear, I couldn’t do any videos this week. I figured that I would re-mix New River Train and this time, mix in a very simple tablature file in with it.

Can’t help but love Grandpa Jones
I showed this to a friend one time and he thought it was not a true live performance due to there being no microphone. I think it would be harder to dub than to do it live. What do you think? Is it live or not?

Oh no! It’s just like when I found out Pro Wrestling was scripted. It’s still an entertaining performance though.
